“So that, in sum, hope is nothing else than the expectation of the things that faith has believed to be truly promised by God. Thus Faith believes God to be truthful: Hope expects that He will show His veracity at the opportune time.” (John Calvin)
I love that last line, hope expects that He will show His veracity at the opportune time. God will make good on his promise.
In Romans 15:13, Paul prays that you would be filled with hope. His prayer is, “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that by the power of the Holy Spirit you may abound in hope. “
Abound is a religious sounding word. You really only hear it in religious, sermon type contexts. What it means is that the supply is never exhausted.
Paul’s prayer is that we would abound in hope. His prayer is that we would be confidently expecting God to come through and continually and plentifully be affected by that notion.
May you abound in hope today.
