Next Sunday (January 17) at North Church we will begin a series called Transformed. We launch off into this series with three weeks of discussion on Romans 12:2. This is not a commercial for the series or North Church. It is a commercial for intimacy and poetry inducing relationship with God.
What precedes Romans 12 are these four verses from Romans 11.
33 Oh, the depth of the riches of the wisdom and knowledge of God! How unsearchable his judgments, and his paths beyond tracing out!34 “Who has known the mind of the Lord? Or who has been his counselor?”35 “Who has ever given to God, that God should repay him?”36 For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.
Think for a minute, maybe even journal about the state of mind and state of being of the author of these four short verses. What must be happening in the spirit of Paul as he writes this. The poetry and use of language here is really moving. Paul is taken by God. Paul has apprehended the beauty of God, he has taken a close look at God, he is in intimate relationship with God and it has moved his spirit to the art that is found in these verses.
Paul has gotten to this place through the application of Romans 12:2 and now he shares the path to that place with us. You and I were created to be in the place that Paul is in when he writes these words. Now, there is much more to this than what appears in Romans 12:2. But at the heart of this wonder and awe that led Paul to write these verses and the invitation for us to join him there is found in this one verse.
Join us this week as we take a walk down the path toward being Transformed.
