This is the second of three posts this week where we will look into what it means to “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.”
You and I were created to be in deep and intimate relationship with God in such a way that every longing that our hearts have ever known, every craving that has ever entered our minds is completely satisfied. But sin has ruined that connection. The result is that we try hard to regain that relationship or we abandon that relationship and we rarely get a glimpse of that intended relationship.
But make no mistake, you were created to be filled with pleasure. You were created to crave that pleasure and find the fulfillment of that pleasure. The path to finding that pleasure if what this series and this verse is all about.
Romans 12:2 uses the phrase, “be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” What does “renewing your mind” mean, what does it look like?
Renewing is the Greek word Anakainosis meaning a renewal, renovation, complete change for the better.
Mind is the Greek word Nous meaning a particular mode of thinking and judging, i.e thoughts, feelings, purposes, desires.
So renewing of the mind phrase means a complete change for the better of the way you think, judge, feel, desire. Think for minute about what it would look like if your desires were in step with Jesus’ desires. Or you judged your self, your family, your co-workers, your neighbors that way that Jesus does. This is so appealing to me. I hope it is appealing to you as well.
We sure to check back on Friday for the conclusion as we talk more about the idea of the role of grace in this transformation and mind renewal.
