I want to remind you of something before you read this post. GOD IS THE GOAL. When we engage in a series like this, when we strive to be transformed the goal is to get more of God. The goal is to be in deeper more intimate relationship with him, to know him better. The result of all of this is more pure joy; more intimately understood purpose. The goal of this is God.
So far in this series of posts we have talked about the process of being transformed being a complete change and not something that we are capable of in ourselves. We need a miracle to happen, we need grace for it to happen. I want to talk about Means of Grace today. We need grace in order to be transformed. We need grace in order to have renewed minds.
What is a Means of Grace? Grace is unmerited favor, that is giving something that you could not attain for yourself or did not earn. Grace shows up everywhere. Grace is not just for the forgiveness of your sins. Grace allows you to live the life you were called to live. Grace is essential for Transformation. Grace allows for a miracle to happen.
Our role in the process of transformation has to do with Means of Grace. The means of grace is way in which we are connected with grace. A car is a means of transport. A fork is a means of food. A syringe is a means of medication, a pill is a means of medication.
We want this series to be practical. We want to use as many vehicles as we can to engage the idea of being transformed by the renewing of our minds for the purpose of getting God. There are many different Means of Grace. We will talk about them in the coming weeks at North Church and in this blog. We will be engaging in something called 40 Days of Transformation starting in February where we will engage in Means of Grace or spiritual disciplines.
Perhaps the easiest and best Means of Grace is Bible intake.
Bible intake- We have one enemy and his name is Satan and he has one weapon and that is to get us to believe something that isn’t true about God, self or others. Therefore, we must be diligent in our pursuit of truth and our hammering of truth into our minds. There is nothing that can defeat a lie, like the truth. In order to be transformed, we must get the truth of scripture into us. So a Means of Grace is to read the Bible, study the Bible, Memorize verses, meditate on phrases in scripture, listen to sermons on podcasts, attend a Bible study.
Thanks for reading.
