Day 10 | Prayers of Confession
Confession = “a formal statement admitting that one is guilty of a crime”
Read Psalm 51. Before you do though, understand that Psalm 51 is the product of David’s sin. Before writing Psalm 51, David slept with another man’s wife, impregnated her, had her husband killed to avoid disgrace, and then took that woman as his wife. David thought that he got away with it. But, Nathan, a man that God sent to speak truth to David called him out and showed David his sin. If you wanna read the story, check out 2 Samuel 11-12.
David was broken over his sin and wrote Psalm 51.
God wants you to confess your sin to Him. He wants you to do so, not so that you will feel bad about yourself, but so that you will know how faithful He is. Confession can be dangerous, if you do not know the fullness of the gospel. Confession can be life changing if you fully understand how much God loves you and the extent of His grace. He loves you more than you will ever know and you are more accepted than you can ever imagine.
The Bible says that God is faithful and just to forgive your sin (1 John 1:9). It says that, if you trust in Jesus, God removes you from your sin as far as the east is from the west (Psalm 103:12). It says that God has removed your sin.
So confess your sin today. Do not just confess surface sin like lust or lying or gossip. Go deeper. Think about what made you lust or what made you lie or gossip. Think about what that says about you. Allow yourself to be sickened by what you find, but know that God has fully forgiven all of those sins. Do not stay in that pit of despair.
The deeper you go with acknowledging your sin, the deeper you understand the extent of the grace of God. So go deep, think deeply today about your sin. Know that you have sinned against a holy God. Know that your sin is always before you. But know that God will never cast you away from His presence and will deliver you from the guilt of your sin.
Ask God to allow you to go deep with your sin and deep with understanding forgiveness. He waits to show you grace and mercy. Today can be a life-changing day for you, go deep, confess your sin to him.
Here are some scriptures you can use to think on and pray prayers of confession:
Psalm 38:18 (ESV)
18 I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin.
Psalm 32:5 (ESV)
5 I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not cover my iniquity; I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,” and you forgave the iniquity of my sin. Selah
Proverbs 28:13 (ESV)
13 Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy.
1 John 1:9 (ESV)
9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
James 5:16 (ESV)
16 Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.
As you confess your sin today, listen to this song by Lauren Daigle and worship the Lord that he always forgives!
