Day 31 | Fasting reveals our need for God
In the video above that launched our fasting week Jeff said:
“You will literally feel your body ache and long for something, anything to eat and that is your reminder that your soul needs God.”
This idea is crucial to really understanding the heart of fasting.
Scripture is filled with the idea that God’s people are best and most connected to God when they are the most aware of their need. Fasting underscores this. It takes a good thing and our desire for a good thing and makes us very presently and very physically aware of our need.
Consider these verses as you fast today. Consider your need for God.
Psalm 3:4 – “I cried aloud to the LORD, and he answered me from his holy hill.”
Psalm 34:4 – “I sought the LORD, and he answered me; he delivered me from all my fears.”
Psalm 118:5 – “When hard pressed, I cried to the LORD; he brought me into a spacious place.”
Psalm 120:1 – “In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me.”
God’s word is filled with promises like these. Today allow fasting to be a physical reminder of these truths.
