Day 37 | Serving is the Call for Your Life
Mark 10:42-45 is our guide for our week of focusing on the discipline of serving. In it Jesus is talking to his disciples and he says to them,
42 You know that those who are considered rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great ones exercise authority over them. 43 But it shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, 44 and whoever would be first among you must be slave of all. 45 For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.
Take a look at verse 43. Jesus tells his guys that if they want to be great they must be a servant. Jesus was the model of this. Before Jesus came to earth on the first Christmas, Jesus was in heaven seated next to God. He was in perfection. Think about that for minute. Jesus was receiving glory and honor. Angels were flying around singing “Holy, holy holy” and worshiping Him. But Jesus left that and came to this earth to be the most humble of servants and die a humiliating and painful death.
The Bible says in Philippians that because Jesus was obedient and served people and God by dying on the cross, that God highly exalted him. Take some time to pray today that God would connect your heart and mind to this idea that serving and being humble in your service is the call for your life.
To be practical today, find someone that you interact with frequently and think of a way to serve them. Maybe it is someone at a gas station or at the place where you get coffee in the morning. Maybe it is a co-worker or someone you go to school with. Serve them today. Think about how you could make their day better. Think about a small gift or buy them lunch.
Thanks for reading and enjoy your day.
